Volvo Group is setting up a dedicated mining business, Volvo Mining, to sell Volvo trucks, construction equipment and autonomous solutions to mining customers and their contractors.
The new entity will launch on January 1, 2027, and will sit within Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE). It will start with mining customers and contractors in Sweden, Norway and Finland, with phased expansion into other markets planned.
Volvo says Volvo Mining will have dedicated financial resources, will manage the product and service portfolio for the group’s mining segment globally, and will coordinate mining-related research projects across the group.
“Mining has been an important part of the Volvo Group for decades, but the industry’s growing significance calls for an even greater level of focus,” says Volvo CE president Melker Jernberg.
“With Volvo Mining as our centre of expertise, we are combining capabilities from across the group to further enhance customer value in collaboration with our retail partners.”
Volvo Trucks president Roger Alm says customers in mining make long-term investments and value partners with operational expertise.
“By creating one organisation focused solely on creating a world-class product and services portfolio for the mining industry, with an end-to-end perspective, we can better leverage the Volvo Group offer in a more seamless approach,” he says.
Volvo Autonomous Solutions president Nils Jaeger says the move combines its autonomous technology and operational experience with the wider group’s portfolio and customer relationships.
Per-Erik Lindström, currently senior vice-president of Volvo Trucks International, has been appointed head of Volvo Mining from January 1, 2027.
“As the mining industry evolves, customers are looking for partners who can help them improve productivity, strengthen safety and meet growing sustainability expectations,” Lindström says.
