Toyota will offer 12 different variants of its new-generation Hilux when the updated ute arrives in New Zealand in early 2026, with prices ranging from $49,990 to $63,990.
The expanded lineup spans four model grades – SR, SR5, SR5 Limited and Adventure – with half the variants featuring Toyota’s new 48-volt hybrid system. All models are powered by the company’s 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder engine paired with either six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Toyota NZ Chief Executive Tatsuya Ishikawa says the Hilux needs little introduction to the New Zealand market given its durability reputation and role as the country’s economic workhorse for almost 50 years.

“Under its newly designed skin, the 2025 Hilux is more ‘Hilux’ than ever before, built tough and ready to get the job done, day in, day out,” Ishikawa says.
The range extends from an entry-level rear-wheel-drive double cab wellside ute to the flagship Hilux Adventure, a four-wheel-drive double cab wellside powered by the hybrid 2.8-litre turbo diesel. The former premium SR5 Cruiser has been replaced by the SR5 Limited and Adventure variants for 2025.
Hybrid technology and refinements
The hybrid system uses a compact motor generator connected by a belt system to charge a 48-volt lithium battery installed under the rear seats to preserve cabin space. The system regenerates braking energy during deceleration while providing additional braking performance and improved driving feel during acceleration with its 8.4kW/65Nm electric motor generator.
Toyota has extensively upgraded the interior with a completely redesigned modern layout offering maximum storage space and refined styling while keeping essential off-road controls within easy reach. New front seats feature a wider layout and enhanced cushioning, while engineers have improved noise, vibration and harshness countermeasures with new cabin and engine mounts.

SR grade foundations
The entry SR grade features 17-inch steel wheels, silver painted lower front bumper and trim elements, locking rear tailgate and side steps across four exterior colour choices. SR extra and double cab wellside variants add high-grade fabric upholstery, leather-accented shift knob and steering wheel, rear-seat air conditioning, smart entry and start, wireless smartphone charger and eight-speaker audio system.
Four-wheel-drive automatic SR variants include a locking rear differential, with some models adding Multi Terrain Select and Downhill Assist Control. The SR 4×4 double-cab automatic is available with the 48-volt hybrid system.
SR5 and SR5 Limited upgrades

The four-wheel-drive double-cab-only SR5 introduces comfort-oriented rear leaf suspension tuning for improved ride quality. Available in manual non-hybrid or automatic hybrid powertrains, the SR5 adds 18-inch gloss black and machined alloy wheels, larger front disc brakes, ventilated rear disc brakes, auto-levelling LED headlights, LED taillights, privacy glass and heated exterior mirrors.
Interior upgrades include front seat heating, dual-zone air conditioning, heated steering wheel, 12.3-inch multi-information display and Multi Terrain Monitor. The SR5 Limited adds black leather-accented seats, powered driver seat adjustment and JBL nine-speaker premium audio system.
Both SR and SR5 grades are available in Glacier White, Tensile Silver, Eclipse and new Ash colours, with SR5 and SR5 Limited also offered in Emotional Red.
Adventure flagship
The range-topping Adventure builds on SR5 Limited features with matte black alloy wheels, mineral leather interior and unique front bumper. It’s available in six exterior colours including two exclusive Adventure options – Frosted White and Sulphur.
Ishikawa says the range is designed to meet diverse buyer needs from those requiring a tough, no-frills work ute to customers preferring a refined, well-appointed vehicle for multiple uses throughout the week and weekend.
The new Hilux range includes single, extra and double cab configurations with wellside and cab chassis options. Manual transmission variants are available for three models but exclude the 48-volt hybrid system and features such as Downhill Assist Control and Multi Terrain Select.
