2021 Hyundai Staria Load

Hyundai New Zealand is replacing the evergreen iMax people mover and iLoad light commercial van with the arrival of the Staria and Staria Load into local dealerships.

The 8-seat Staria people-mover sits on the same platform as the Hyundai Santa Fe and offers both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive powertrains powered by a 430Nm 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Available in a two-seat or five-seat configuration the commercially-focussed Staria Load is powered by the same 430Nm 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel. The two-seat version is available with the option of a manual or automatic transmission while the five-seat is solely available as an automatic.

Hyundai says the design features of the new Staria family include horizontal daytime running lights that span across its front end, panoramic windows, and a roof height optimised for comfort and convenience.

“New Zealand finally has a cool looking people mover kitted out with segment-leading technology and safety features ideal for families,” Hyundai New Zealand general manager Andy Sinclair says.

“Van drivers spend hours in their vehicle, and with Staria Load, they now have the comfort they deserve. The increase in cargo space is also significant, which will be of value to businesses.”

Hyundai says the Staria’s cruise ship-inspired interior, is topped by cutting-edge tech in the Limited model, in the form of dual 10.25-inch displays – a Satellite Navigation multimedia system and a full digital virtual instrument cluster.

Further convenience features in the Limited include; leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, power-operated smart sliding side doors and a power tailgate with walk-away function, Smart Key with Push Button and Remote Start, and Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM), Surround View Monitor (SVM) and a Rear Passenger View Monitor.

Advanced safety and driver assistance technologies include a Blind-spot view monitor, and a front centre side airbag, as a part of a seven-airbag suite.

Standard on the entry model is a wireless smartphone charger, five USB charging ports, a grand total of 16 cupholders, a 4.2-inch colour TFT driver information display, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and Smart Cruise Control (SCC).

There are also standard Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist , Blind Spot Collision Avoidance-Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist systems.

The Staria Load is available in either two-seat window or panel van or five-seat crew van configurations. Standard equipment includes 17-inch steel wheels power windows, power mirrors, and wireless smartphone charging, as well as sharing most of the people mover version’s safety features.

Both models share the same 5253mm length, 1997mm width, and 3273mm wheelbase, with the only difference being the Load’s marginally taller height (1990mm vs 2000mm).

The two-seater Staria Load can swallow three Euro pallets thanks to its almost 5000 litres of cargo space.

Towing capacity is 2500kg. Both versions can handle more than 1070kg in payload, with a slight advantage going to the five-seater (1078kg vs 1072kg). The Load variant has sliding doors on both sides and a choice of lift-back or twin-swing rear door arrangement.

Six exterior colours are available including: Creamy White, Graphite Gray, Black, Moonlight Cloud, Dynamic Yellow, and Shimmering Silver Metallic.

Hyundai plans to add further eco-friendly Staria variants in the coming years.
