Another jump in petrol prices is hitting motorists where it hurts – their back pockets.
The 3.5 cents a litre tax, which came into effect on Sunday, is part of a plan by the Government to raise excise duty on petrol by 10.5 cents a litre over the next two years.
The tax will fund a range of road and public transport initiatives.
National Party leader Simon Bridges told Stuff petrol prices have increased by 38 cents since the current Government came to power.
“The Government is spending billions of dollars on a tram in Auckland and sucking funding out of regional roads. People outside Auckland are paying more and getting less.”
