June was the last month to see overall growth, although 276 sales were just 8 more than in 2011, a meagre 2.6%.

Kurtis Andrews of  Auckland’s Keith Andrews Trucks says the month was steady for new trucks, but not as strong as in the middle of the year.

“In terms of our used sales things are down a bit and we are planning on boosting our current stocks to create a bit more interest,” Andrews says. “Late model stuff has had the most interest lately.

“I think overall the market will be nothing special over the next 6 months, and hopefully picking up after that.”

David Ching from Hino Christchurch was much more excited.

“This whole year has been phenomenal and October was no different,” Ching says. “Like many I’ve had problems with my house following the earthquakes, but the general long term industry view is of buoyancy.”

“I feel positive about the future market, there is a lot of gear out there that people never got around to replacing when the recession, which means a whole lot of potential business still exists.”

Hino pipped Isuzu for the overall top spot with 53 units sold, up a massive 231.3% on the 16 they managed in October 2011.

Their market share totalled 16.9% and comes on the back of strong growth throughout 2012.
