Sales of new heavy trucks are running 25% this year above 2012 registrations, as the improving economy continues to lift sales in the sector.
So far this year, 3341 new heavy trucks (above 3500 kg gsm) have been registered – compared with 2669 in the first 11 months last year.
All but four of this year’s heavy truck sales were for diesel-powvered units.
For the month of November, new heavy truck sales were up 29% to 354 units, from 274 in the first 11 months of 2012.
With the Christchurch-rebuild now in full swing, and growth in the construction and forest sectors also ramping up, new heavy truck sales are forecast to keep on rising in 2014.
