WorkSafe New Zealand is extending the deadline date for the renewal of Certificates of Competence for the extractives industry by a year to 31 December 2016.
The regulator says that people in roles established by the 2013 regulations that would have needed the new competencies by 1 January 2016 now have until 1 January 2017.
High Hazards Unit chief inspector- extractives Tony Forster says that the extension resulted from feedback from the industry that indicated that the original timetable for the new competencies was too tight and placed too much pressure on the industry.
As providers finalise their arrangements for 2016, then course schedules will be published.
