New Zealand’s top Scania truck technicians have placed first equal at the Kuala Lumpur regional finals.

The five-man team, All Torque, All Noise, consists of Daniel Halton, Tom Hicks, Scott Cann, Braden Olsen and Craig Lucas. They competed against seven other teams from across Asia-Pacific for the regional Scania Top Team title.

The technicians all work at CablePrice’s Whangarei branch and will now travel to Sweden in December to represent Scania NZ and CablePrice at the global final.

Working in 33 degrees, and 65% humidity, All Torque, All Noise had to complete a range of challenging technical tasks during the one-day event including a theory-based exercise. They will complete similar challenges at the final in Sweden.

The team’s win is even more remarkable with Daniel Halton and Craig Lucas having only worked on Scania trucks for 18 months each.

The Chinese team, who also move forward to the final, had a minimum of five years’ experience.

This year’s final is a chance for redemption for the team after their Whangarei colleagues narrowly missed out on the 2013 global title to Australia. CablePrice last won the global award in 2015.

CablePrice Whangarei operations manager Iain Hunt says he is enormously proud of the team.

“All Torque, All Noise proved that they are all action. They are passionate about Scania and their commitment to excellence has been key to their success so far.

“Having such talented technicians ultimately benefits the New Zealand truck customer, who can buy a Scania truck knowing there’s a world-class team of professionals ready to support their investment and business.

“We’ve a talented group of technicians who are making CablePrice, our customers and New Zealand proud,” Hunt says.

Over the next three months, CablePrice technicians will represent New Zealand at three world finals for Scania, Isuzu and Hitachi brands.

The Scania Top Team competition is now in its tenth year. Over 8000 contestants from 70 countries have participated in the 2018 event.

The top 12 teams (two from each regional final) will be up against each other to take home the Scania Top Team title, the ultimate honour for every team, and the EUR 50,000 cash prize.
