The Lloyd Morrison Foundation is gifting a new replacement ambulance to the Wellington Free Ambulance service.
It is the second time this foundation has gifted a vehicle to the service; it also supports Heartbeat – a programme that sees Wellington Free Ambulance provide free CPR training to the people of Greater Wellington and the Wairarapa.
Wellington Free Ambulance boss Diana Crossan says the arrival of the new ambulance is perfectly timed as the service gears up for a busy holiday season ahead.
“We see increases in festive season incidents at this period, so a new ambulance carrying the very latest technology is a gift to the crew, and the people they’ll help this summer,” says Crossan.
At the launch of the new vehicle, prime minister Bill English thanked the Wellington Free Ambulance staff for the work they do every day and talked about the significant role paramedics have in bringing calm and order to a large-scale emergency.
“Having well-trained people in their uniforms makes such a difference,” says the prime minister.
He praised the relationship between Wellington Free Ambulance and the Lloyd Morrison Foundation who are significant supporters of the service, describing it as ‘smart philanthropy in action’.
“It’s good to do something nice, but better when you get a good sense of purpose and can see the difference it makes,” says English.
