Volvo Trucks New Zealand has unveiled a new range of lower-horsepower options for its Euro 6 13-litre engine platform, aimed at improving efficiency and performance across its FM and FMX models.

The new range, imported and distributed by Motor Truck Distributors (MTD), introduces power outputs from 380hp and 1850Nm through to 420hp and 2100Nm, alongside a 460hp/2300Nm variant, designed to suit a wide range of transport applications.

Volvo says the updated engines deliver increased torque across a broader, lower rpm band, with peak torque ranging from 905Nm to 1400Nm across the new variants. Engine brake performance has also been improved, with braking power increased by 70kW over comparable 11-litre engines.

MTD general manager Scott Holt says the new options are designed to support customers across multiple applications.

“These new power options are designed to support FM and FMX customers.

“With potential gains in efficiency and performance for lightweight and rigid applications, we are excited to continue to deliver real value that we expect to improve customers’ bottom line,” Holt says.

The Volvo FM and Volvo FMX are widely used across New Zealand in sectors including bulk liquid transport, regional freight, waste and recycling, construction, mining, agriculture and quarry operations.

Holt says the company remains focused on delivering value to operators.

“Volvo Trucks New Zealand are unequivocally committed to continuing to deliver value to our customers.

“With new range features like the increased torque, extended oil drain intervals, and more powerful engine braking, we’re confident that the Volvo FM and FMX range will continue to offer an attractive option for a wide range of transport operators.”

The FM and FMX models are available in New Zealand with five cab configurations, including day cab (low and high), sleeper (low and high), and the Globetrotter.
