The Volvo Vista service technician championship is underway, with 31 teams made up of 115 participants competing in the New Zealand rounds.
Held worldwide, Vista 2012-2013 has attracted more than 4440 teams and 16,00 participants, the largest turnout in the competition’s 55 year history and significantly more than 2011-2012’s total.
The best 32 teams will qualify for the World Final, held in June 2013, in Volvo’s hometown Gothenburg, Sweden.
However to make it that far teams must first go through three rounds of theoretical questions, the first of which began on September 10. Teams have three weeks to submit their answers, with two more following rounds in November and January.
The best performing teams will then qualify for regional semi finals, where participants will have their practical and theoretical skills tested in workshops held in Brazil, Australia and Spain.
Ray Roberts, Truck Stops’ general manager of sales and service, says that the Vista competition is an excellent way for technicians to hone their skills in a fun environment.
“The teams go out of their way to do the best they possibly can, which is great for the whole industry. The 2011-2012 competition saw the team “Truck NZ” win the award for team spirit.
