At the groundbreaking ceremony for the new AUD $30 million Volvo Group Australia head office in Brisbane this week, Volvo Groups global president and chief executive officer Martin Lundstedt said the Group had a bright future in the continent.
Lundstedt reaffirmed the Volvo Groups commitment to Australian truck building, and also the importance of the UD brand within the groups line-up.
Prime Mover Magazine reports attending the ceremony were Lundstedt and UD Trucks’ Executive Chairman, Joachim Rosenberg, as well as the Ambassador of Sweden to Australia, Per Ahlberger, and Australian Trucking Association (ATA) Chair, Noelene Watson.
Lundstedt told assembled guests, and Prime Mover Magazine that Volvo Group Australia has been building trucks at its Wacol facility for more than 40 years.
“Wacol is the largest truck assembly plant in Australia, and its dedicated workforce has enabled VGA to become the largest truck builder in the country,” says Lundstedt.
“I appreciate that manufacturing in Australia has been in decline for some years, as it has been in many other nations, but the outlook for our business is strong,” he says.
Prime Mover Magazine reports that Lundstedt also reaffirmed his commitment to the UD brand, saying it was “extremely important” to the Volvo Group.
“Although we are open to finding strategic alliances where we think it’s beneficial for everyone, we stand behind the brand and are committed to the range that we currently have,” says Lundstedt.
