Volvo is developing and supplying articulated buses for high passenger capacity transport systems called Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Latin America, where the Gran Artic and its smaller siblings, the Super Artic 210, the Artic 180, and the Artic 150 run on dedicated bus lanes.

Volvo has delivered more than 4,000 buses to the BRT-systems of Curitiba, Bogotá, Guatemala City, Mexico City, Santiago de Chile and San Salvador.

The high-capacity buses reduce the number of vehicles operating in the bus corridors, leading to an increased average speed of the system as well as reduced emissions.

Volvo also unveiled its new three axles 22 m articulated chassis, Super Artic 210 at FertransRio exhibition. In addition to the higher transportation capacity, it has five doors.

The extra door facilitates boarding and alighting and also enables better passenger distribution inside the bus.

“This vehicle will provide more efficient transportation systems, offering a higher quality for the passengers and improved cost efficiency for the transport operators”, says Volvo Bus Latin America head Fabiano Todeschini.

Volvo’s bus range for high-capacity urban transportation systems also includes the 18.6m Artic 150 (150 passenger capacity) and the 21m Artic 180 (180 passenger capacity).
