VINZ chief executive Sean Stevens says the company is only open for inspections of essential service vehicles under the level 4 lockdown.
He says all sites are operating on a booking-only basis through the local branch manager.
Stevens says the following protocols are now in place for the duration:
- Services must be booked with only one vehicle and customer onsite at any one time.
- Customers must sign in using the COVID tracker, No sign in, No service.
- Customers must maintain social distancing protocol. Only one employee will deal with the customer to assist with contact tracing.
- Customers must wear masks for all interaction with staff.
- All staff working at this time will undergo temperature checks at beginning of shift.
- All sites will have hand sanitiser available for customer use.
Compliance for essential vehicles only
Meanwhile, VINZ director Gordon Shaw says the inspectorate is still open for bookings on a case-by-case basis for essential vehicles and essential workers but there will be no entry certification for freshly imported used vehicles.

Shaw says that Ports of Auckland will remain open to disembark roll-on roll-off vessels, but local compliance services will not operate during level 4 and therefore used imported vehicles will be trucked to storage facilities in the interim period.
“There have been a few management changes at NZTA since this last happened, so we are waiting for the industry working group to reform so that we take an industry approach to the current situation,” Shaw says.
