The NZ Transport Agency’s crackdown on vehicle inspectors continues, with Auckland’s Elia Sipaia and his organisation El’s Auto Services having its accreditation pulled.
The suspension notice, which bans Sipaia from issuing any new warrants of fitness was served on December 4.
“Mr Sipaia has a long history of non-compliance, including rushed inspections and failing to identify issues with brakes, seatbelts and corrosion,” NZTA says.
All 3783 affected vehicle owners whose vehicles were tested by Sipaia will be contacted individually by NZTA to advise them on recheck options.
Vouchers will be provided, so they can get the vehicles retested for free.
“We are unaware of specific concerns relating to individual vehicles however, due to the poor quality of Mr Sipaia’s inspections there is a possibility that some vehicles may have been incorrectly passed,” NZTA says.
“For this reason we strongly encourage people who have a current Warrant of Fitness issued by Mr Sipaia and El’s Auto Service to get their vehicle rechecked.”
It is the latest in a number of suspensions handed out by NZTA, with other banned organisations including Westland Automotive and Tyre, Orient Motors, and Jet Tyres and Wheel Alignment
