New trucks over 3500 kg, however, are down 18% in January – April this year, with 757 crossing our wharves, compared with 898 in the first four months of 2012.

Last month’s total of 202 trucks over 3500 kg landed here is, however, the best month this year – but it is well down on the 265 new trucks imported in April last year.

But in the smaller trucks category (utes and vans under 3500 kg), new product is really booming, with 6244 arriving here in the first four months of this year.

This is 35% up on the 4598 new utes and vans imported in January – April a year ago.

The figure for used imports is, however, even more impressive, with1290 utes and vans under 3500 kg arriving here in the first four months of the year, compared with only 612 light commercials – less than half the number – being imported in the same period last year.
