centreportTrade unions and Centreport are working together to get the business back on track after damage caused by the November 14 earthquake.

The Maritime Union of New Zealand (MUNZ), the Rail and Maritime Transport Union (RMTU) and E Tū Union, represent Centreport’s workforce in cargo handling, port security, and engineering.

Since the earthquake, there have been substantial efforts to get shipping services resumed and cargo moving, MUNZ Wellington branch assistant secretary John Whiting says.

“The positive relationships that have been developed over many years by the unions and workforce, and Centreport management, have enabled all parties to respond to the situation in a co-operative and constructive way.”

Getting the port operation going again just 72 hours after the quake shows the high level of co-operation between the two groups and that will continue in the coming months, the unions say.
