Japan-based truck maker UD has announced plans to test a level-four self-driving truck in Hokkaido.
Level 4 technology allows a vehicle to drive automatically in specific areas.
The trial will be held in conjunction with transport operator Nippon Express and local agricultural cooperatives.
The aim of the trial is to confirm issues that need to be cleared before putting the technology into practical use. It will be the first time such a test will be held in Japan.
UD Trucks is part of the Volvo Truck group.
