For the third time in the last month, police have uncovered further ‘chop-shops’ handling stolen vehicles, again in the Canterbury region.
In the latest, Stuff.co.nz reports that police have seized trucks, cars and jet-skis from a Yaldhurst property.
The seizures at D.L. Dismantlers came just two weeks after a huge discovery at a yard in Rolleston.
In the latest case, police seized two trucks and four partly dismantled cars. One had been stolen as recently as Tuesday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Corrie Parnell says one of the vehicles was stolen from the Paul Kelly Motor Company car yard in 2009.
“It appears to be another illegal chop-shop.”
Police say it was unknown where the parts of the vehicles were headed, but the business had been selling items on TradeMe.
the owners of the yard would likely face charges of receiving stolen goods, and could also be charges with theft. Police are looking to have the businesses second hand dealers license revoked.
Stuff.co.nz reported a company spokesperson as saying it was sold the stolen vehicles by another company.
“There’s no chop-shop here.”
