The number of trucks registered to be on NZ roads climbed by over 7000 vehicles in 2012.
There are now 468,967 trucks registered for on-road use, as at the end of December – 7380 more than there were at the end of 2011.
Industry observers believe that the increase may be attributable, in part, to vehicles which were “parked up” during the economic downturn of the past few years, being brought back into use as the economy picks up again.
The number of registered tractors also increased in 2012, with numbers rising by 505 to 30,421.
According to figures supplied by auto industry consultant, John R Nicholls, there are now 2,884,529 vehicles in the New Zealand fleet – excluding caravans and trailers, motorcycles and mopeds, tractors, exempt and miscellaneous vehicles.
The biggest category of vehicles licensed for use on our roads is obviously cars with 2,384,867 cars now registered – 22,911 more than a year ago.
