Arrivals of new and used heavy trucks over 3500kg (GVM) and light commercials under 3500kg (GVM) remain steady in July 2017 according to motor vehicle statistics received from New Zealand Customs today.

Given the robust new passenger, light commercial, and heavy truck market in July, it is perhaps not surprising that arrival numbers continue to remain consistent.

However, the overall new light commercial arrival total of 16,704 units in the year to date is significantly fewer than the 21,835 which arrived at the same time last year, a decline of 5131 units.

New light commercial arrivals of 3016 for the month of July were the second highest yet this year, narrowly eclipsed by the April 2017 figure of 3060 arrivals.

New heavy truck arrivals tallied 248 units, the second lowest number this year; only January 2016 saw fewer entries with a total of 165 units crossing New Zealand wharves.

Year to date at July 2016 more than 2086 new heavy trucks have arrived, this compares favourably with the total of 2101 at the same time last year.

There were 623 used light commercial (under 3500kg GVM) arrivals in July 2016, for a year to date figure of 3935 (3483 in 2015).

There were 248 used heavy truck (over 3500kg GVM) arrivals in July 2016, for a year to date tally of 2086 which is a massive increase from 660 in the previous corresponding period.
