Mitsubishi Motors NZ (MMNZ) is stamping some sharp Fieldays prices on its tough new Triton range.
The Triton, now the third most popular ute in New Zealand, represents great value for money with 4WD models starting at $31,590 plus GST and on-road costs.
The Triton 4WD GLX-R double cab manual is available at $39,990 plus on-road costs.
The new-look Triton has been turning heads since it was unveiled late last year, quickly climbing up the rankings and overtaking Hilux twice in 2019.
MMNZ head of marketing and corporate affairs Reece Congdon says he’s confident Triton will represent the best value ute deal on display at Fieldays this year.
“It’s the most recently launched model on display and its powerful new look, combined with market-leading safety features, improved off-road capability and a 10-year warranty, make it the most compelling ute package of the event.”
The highly specced 4WD GLX-R double cab manual starts at $39,990 plus on-road costs.
The 2WD GLX-R manual is available for $35,990 plus on-road costs, the 2WD VRX auto for $41,990 plus on-road costs, and the 4WD VRX Auto for $49,990 plus on-road costs.
For those with more of an eye on work than play, the 4WD GLX single cab auto is going for $31,590 plus GST and on-road costs, the 4WD GLX club cab manual for $31,790 plus GST on-road costs and the 4WD GLX double cab manual for $32,590 plus GST on-road costs.
Triton traction
The Triton was the fastest-growing mainstream 4WD ute in New Zealand in 2018 and the third-highest selling, bumping the Holden Colorado into fourth place month after month.
Since the new model arrived in New Zealand, it has raised the stakes, overhauling Toyota Hilux to take second place twice in three months.
“We’ve had a great start to the year, earning second place in the ute segment of the market in January and March as we welcomed the first full shipment of new Triton models, along with a continuing run-out campaign of the previous model,” Congdon says.
“We also celebrated our ninth year of consecutive growth at the end of the 2018 financial year with third spot in the market for FY18, and 12,954 sales representing 8.4% market share – a 0.9% increase over the previous financial year.”
Congdon says offering the ute at such a compelling price will see many more Tritons hit the road and the paddock.
“The value it offers exceeds that of older models, offered by some of our competitors, by a Mangaweka mile.”
The powerful new model can run loose on some of the toughest terrain, thanks to Mitsubishi’s class-leading Super Select 4WD, which allows drivers to switch between 2WD and 4WD modes on the fly, even on the open road.
The new off-road mode features gravel, mud/snow, sand and rock settings. When engaged, Off-road Mode controls engine power, transmission and braking to regulate the amount of wheel slip and thereby maximise all-terrain performance.
A 2.4L turbo diesel engine delivers a hefty 437Nm with 3.5T towing capacity – so drivers can pack more than a picnic on their next journey.
“Class-leading safety, off-road capability, standard features such as Smartphone Link Display Audio (SDA) and New Zealand’s leading new car warranty, Diamond Advantage, all add up to make this package our best Fieldays offer yet.
Strength in depth
“While Triton is our current star performer, we pride ourselves on providing a dynamic range that reflects Kiwis’ diverse and changing lifestyles.
“With this in mind, we’ll be launching two incredible run-out offers at this year’s Fieldays,” Congdon says.
SUV fans will have the chance to take home one of two last-chance bargains – Mitsubishi’s popular ASX 2WD XLS or the highly specced Pajero Sport VRX.
Along with the run-outs and wide range of Tritons on offer, MMNZ is also offering sharp pricing on its high-performing line-up of SUVs:
This includes ASX 2WD XLS from $26,990 plus on-road costs, Eclipse Cross from $32,990 plus on-road costs, Outlander from $32,990 plus on-road costs, 4WD Petrol VRX from $45,990 plus on-road costs and Pajero Sport 4WD VRX from $49,990 plus on-road costs.
For those looking to build up their new beast, a range of accessory offers will also be on site including hot offers on roll-top lids, DTM alloys, nudge bars and more.
“Our host of hotly priced models and other offers will be on show at stand J30-34.
“We’ll also have a replica Triton Super Ute – as seen in the Australian SuperUte series – on display, so make sure to stop by and snag yourself the best deal going at what’s become the biggest car show of the year,” Congdon says.
