Tricky situation for North Shore bus drivers

Bus drivers trying to enter the Akoranga bus station on Auckland’s North Shore are facing a constant fight against illegally parked cars.

Commuters’ cars parked on yellow lines, on berms and on traffic islands have forced some drivers to alter their route, adding five minutes to the trip.

Buses have had to back up and go the wrong way around the roundabout to avoid the cars, Christian Stockx, who works at nearby business, The Golf Warehouse.

Auckland Transport spokesman Mark Hannah says the affected area is run by Auckland Council, which means AT can’t give out tickets in the area.

“We will work with council to see how we can control the parking there,” Hannan said.
