The Road Transport Forum Conference took place at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin recently and October’s TransportTalk magazine has extensive coverage.

It was the first time since 2005 that the conference has been held in Dunedin and the “Southern Ways” theme recognised the important role of the road transport industry in the Otago and Southland regions.

Transport minister Phil Twyford was there hammering home his message of road safety and multimodal transport and former ANZ chief economist Cameron Bagrie gave his view on the state of the economy with a warning about “disruption”.

Telematics companies EROAD and Teletrac Navman were among exhibitors at the conference and we asked them what they were up to in terms of new technologies and developments.

We also welcome Paul France who has been appointed national sales manager for Volvo Truck & Bus, Jason Keddie who takes on the dealer principal role for newly established Iveco NZ and Tracy Black who has been appointed chief financial officer for Penske.

In terms of port operations, it’s been a busy few weeks for Ports of Auckland which is nearing the completion of its new Waikato Freight Hub, seeing the introduction of three new massive container cranes from China and reporting another year of success in its annual results.

Plus, Gary Morgan hangs up his hat after 50 years at Repco, a new freight safety group is formed, Auckland Airport unveils big transport plans and Isuzu truck technicians compete on the world stage.

And don’t forget to take a look at our regular columns and statistics pages that keep you up-to-date with the latest industry trends.
