Welcome to the first edition of TransportTalk for 2018. The name DIESELtalk served the magazine and website well for several years, but we’ve switched to TransportTalk to reflect the changing nature of the industry.
Rest assured we’re not changing the focus of the content we produce. Naming the publication after one small part of such a large industry just no longer suits.
Last year was a massive year within the transport industry and with the appointment of the new Labour-led government many new schemes and projects are anticipated.
A recently released New Zealand Institute of Economic Research report detailing the difficulties of moving vehicle import operations from the Ports of Auckland has added to the conversation.
Our lead story looks at the key findings from the report. In particular, it looks at the impact and cost of heavy vehicle imports should such an operation take place outside of New Zealand’s biggest city.
The past year was another record-breaker for heavy vehicle sales and we speak to key people in the industry on how business went and what their predictions are for the months ahead.
We also pay tribute to business leader Calven Bonney who was acknowledged in the New Year’s honours list for his services to the industry. With over 40 years of dedication in trucking and his involvement in motorsport, the recognition is well deserved.
TransportTalk was also at the recent launch of the new Turners Trucks & Machinery site in Wiri, South Auckland.
Along with a number of other expansions around the country, we look at how Turners is set to grow its footprint in the used heavy vehicle market.
Plus take a look at our regular columns and statistics pages that keep you up-to-date with the latest industry trends.
