The sale of Transpacific Industries New Zealand’s waste management business – expected to be worth around $1 billion dollars – is looking to be competitive.
Business media have reported that infrastructure and utilities fund Infratil and private equity firm The Carlyle Group are expected to lead the process.
Bids are also expected by Beijing Capital Group – owned by the Beijing Municipal Government – and a group of unnamed Maori tribes, as part of a bid by investment group Morrison and Co.
The sale will be the biggest in New Zealand since Haier took over appliance-maker Fisher and Paykel, and dwarf the $196 million dollar sale of Transpacific’s commercial unit to Penske Automotive Group.
