The Waitangirua and Whitby links will provide road access between eastern Porirua suburbs and the Hutt Valley, Wellington City and Kapiti Coast.

“LHJV will first complete the link roads’ design and prepare all necessary construction management plans then undertake selected earthworks for the link roads from late 2015 using fill from the motorway construction,” says LHJV board member, and chief executive officer of HEB, Derrick Adams

“In a later stage of work we will construct the link roads and associated structures and have them ready ahead of the opening of the Transmission Gully route in 2020.”

Mayor Nick Leggett says the people of Porirua have never wavered in their support for the
Transmission Gully project.

The Whitby Link Road will be 1.45km and connect with the 1.95km Waitangirua Link Road at the new James Cook Interchange.

The completed Transmission Gully project will reduce traffic volumes along the existing section of State Highway 1 through Mana, Plimmerton and Pukerua Bay.
