South Island based Trans Diesel has taken a pro-active approach to address technical skills shortages in the diesel industry. “We launched our website www.bigjob.co.nz detailing all of our job opportunities, and those positions can be applied for online,” says Mark Keatley, marketing and dealer development manager.
“We’ve taken a different approach to others in meeting the challenges of the recognisable skills shortage within the diesel industry,” he told DIESELtalk.
The website features a “big job” theme playing on an obsession with things big. Jobs advertised include service managers, diesel technicians, equipment sales, parts sales, freight and logistics, purchasing, parts and admin.
The talent shortage is NZ-wide, Keatley believes, and not specifically a South Island problem.
The bigjob website is part of a multi-pronged strategy aiming to meet the challenges of increasing skills shortages, and runs alongside a successful diesel apprentice scheme.
TransDiesel is the authorised distributor for a number of leading equipment brands including Volvo, Yanmar Construction Equipment, Detroit Diesel, MTU, Perkins, VM Motori and Kohler. A nationwide network of branches and service agents provides national coverage.
