Heavy and light traffic movement in New Zealand has increased slightly, according to analysis.
The ANZ Truckometer indexes show heavy traffic lifted by 1.1% and light traffic 1.5% over a three-month average.
ANZ chief economist Sharon Zollner says the results show “growth was subdued in the September quarter”.
However, “lifts in October and November are a good start to the final three months of the year”, she says.
“The economy is at a delicate juncture, but the light traffic index, which provides a forward-looking indicator of momentum in the economy, suggests we’ll push through.
“Political uncertainty, a cooling housing market and more difficulty obtaining credit at a time of transitioning growth drivers could cause a growth hiccup.
“However, the ongoing strength of the light traffic index suggests this economy still has plenty going on,” Zollner says.
