A Timaru truck driver has won the national ploughing championship in the reversible class – nine times.
“I’ve been competing in ploughing since 1976,” Bob Mehrtens told stuff.co.nz.
“This is my 38th final.”
He’s also represented New Zealand in the world championships eight times.
To qualify for the nationals, Mehrtens had to win a qualifying event – 22 are held throughout the country.
