On average, five people die, and ACC receives over 1000 claims for work-related quad bikes accidents each year, costing $12 million.

ACC says quad bikes are a major cause of death and injury in rural workplaces, many incidents associated with accidental rollovers.

Worksafe issued a new policy clarification strongly recommending that a CPD is installed on all quad bikes used for work.

ACC is collaborating with Worksafe to design the CPD subsidy to help rural business buy CPDs for their quad bikes.

From June 12, any purchase of the two WorkSafe recommended CPDs will be eligible for ACC’s subsidy. ACC has timed the availability with the Fieldays’ specials.

The subsidy offer is $180 per CPD with a maximum of two CPD purchases per business, about a 15-30% discount.

It will be available for 12 months, with ACC reviewing after six months.

An estimated 38,000 businesses, including self-employed, are in these targeted sub-sectors. This group accounts for an estimated 70% of all quad bike related claim costs.
