Statistics NZ Wellington staff are unable to return to Statistics House, which was damaged by the severe 7.8 magnitude earthquake on 14 November 2016.
Some Statistics NZ staff moved into a temporary office in HP House in Gilmer Tce, Wellington on November 21. More staff will move into other floors in the same building over coming weeks.
On November 25, Statistics NZ announced it had agreed to lease its second temporary premises in Wellington. The new facility is Westpac House, 318 Lambton Quay.
Statistics NZ will occupy three floors in Westpac House, a mid-1970s construction which is 100% of building code.
There have been some media reports about demolishing Statistics House, but these are false according to the government agency.
With a government inquiry announced and engineering reports underway the reality is that Statistics NZ has no idea what the future holds for Statistics House.
