“Doing it smarter” was the theme for last week’s Rural Contractors New Zealand annual conference held in Blenheim attended by more than 150 agricultural contractors.
Wellsford-based Steve Levet was re-elected as the president of RCNZ, with Southland’s David Kean re-elected as the vice-president.
Levet says the conference discussed a number of issues that are important to the rural contracting sector such as health and safety; employment; immigration and attracting people to work in the industry.
“RCNZ plays a role as the advocate and representative of rural contractors engaged in a wide range of activities across the agricultural sector throughout the country,” he says.
“We had an agenda of issues pertinent to the rural contracting sector – along with a number of top-line speakers.”
Levet says if rural contractors believe in a united voice talking about and tackling the issues that affect their businesses – then they should be a member of RCNZ.
He says any rural contractors interested in joining RCNZ can find out more information on the association’s website
Levet says as part of the annual conference a charity auction with items donated by conference sponsors is held each year with the proceeds going to St John in the local area.
This year more than $22,000 was raised by members of RCNZ for the Order of St John in Blenheim.
