626New Zealand plastics exporter Sistema is automating it’s new 25-hectare manufacturing facility near Auckland airport to prepare for growth in more than 82 overseas markets.

It has engaged materials handling company Dexion to design, integrate and install New Zealand’s most advanced integrated warehouse system yet.

Dexion’s automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) and real-time distribution system (RDS), warehouse management software, will be at the heart of Sistema’s new multi-million dollar site which it is building in a business park near Auckland airport.

The site will be New Zealand’s largest privately owned manufacturing facility yet.

Sistema managing director Brendan Lindsay says Dexion’s system at the new facility will better enable it to service emerging new contracts to supply plastic containers to retailers in Europe and the United States.

“Dexion will be installing a fully automated, scalable solution that will enable us to achieve our growth targets,” says Lindsay.

“Using Dexion’s AS/RS our warehousing operations will be fully integrated with our manufacturing,” he says.

“Our products will come straight off the manufacturing line into assembly and storage, and we will use Dexion’s RDS software to manage the process,” says Lindsay.

“Dexion’s solution will allow 100 pallets in and 100 pallets out per hour. It will start loading out containers before people turn up to work – it is high throughput, accurate, flexible and will operate 24 hours, seven days a week,” he says.

By installing this system, we are building for the future and will be ready for a rapid growth of our business,” says Lindsay.

Installation at Sistema’s new facility will begin in March for completion in October 2016.
