Truck manufacturer Scania has released a new range of models in New Zealand for the first time.
Among those is the new generation S-series cab, the biggest truck in the range, which was recently on show at the Mystery Creek Fieldays.
Equipped with a 620 horsepower V8 diesel engine the vehicle has 33,200kg GVM and up to 60,000kg GCM.
It features a sleeper cab with a flat floor and is the first truck in the world to offer side curtain airbags
It was awarded ‘International Truck of the Year 2017’ shortly after its international release by a jury of 25 European journalists.
CablePrice commercial vehicle national sales manager Mike Davidson says there was “an incredible” response to the model at the June Fieldays.
“We’ve had great feedback and massive enquiries around the country … the early interest and orders are very encouraging,” Davidson says.
The S-series will work mostly for linehaul operations but there has been a lot of interest from livestock operators also.
The truck is part of a new generation launch by Scania including the P,G, and R-series cabs.
“The Scania range is very versatile so you can really match the combinations and configurations,” Davidson says.
Scania is introducing the new models after ten years of development and more than two billion euros in investment – the largest in the company’s history.
The new trucks are focused on the long and medium haul markets (S-, R- and G-series), the urban distribution (P-series) and the new XT bulk construction materials handling range.
