Changes to road user charges have been announced by the minister of transport, Gerry Brownlee and will take effect on July 1.
Rates will increase an average of 5.9%, in line with increases in fuel excise duty on petrol.
The government says that funding raised will help deliver the ‘roads of national significance’ (RoNS) programme, support investment in upper North Island transport projects beyond the RoNS programme, and contribute to other roading projects outlined in the government Policy Statement on Land Transport Funding 2012.
