Electric_Wheelchair__Invacare_VenturaxTwo road workers rescued a stranded Auckland man using an electric wheelchair when it broke down and left him crawling to push it 6 metres down a path to seek help.

The two good samaritans hoisted the non-functioning electric wheelchair onto the back of their truck and drove the wheelchair user, 44-year-old Philip Rawson who has spina bifida, safely back to the Elizabeth Knox home and hospital.

Rawson says the two men treated him with absolute dignity, they had run to his aid when he called out for help after the electric wheelchair broke down and wouldn’t move.

He told the Central Leader that he’d asked the men if they could fetch his manual wheelchair from the Ranfurly Road care home, but they said they could do one better.

“Before I knew it they said they could hoist my chair up on to the back of the truck and put me in the cab,” says Rawson.

The two men returned to work before he could properly thank them, and Rawson is unsure what company they worked for, but he told the Central Leader he wants to thank them personally for coming to his aid.
