Global logistics firm Rhenus Group is setting up operation in New Zealand for the first time.
It’s providing a range of international and domestic logistic services through its new Auckland site which opened on August 20.
The company is aiming to expand its operation in the Oceania region through the new branch.
Rhenus Logistics NZ managing director Mark Harrison says the new site offers a number of benefits.
“Despite New Zealand’s geographical distance between supply point and customer markets and the challenges this creates from an international logistics perspective, New Zealand remains a leading supplier for both the global dairy and agriculture industries.
“New Zealand commodities within these industries are seen as premium products, along with its clean, green image,” Harrison says.
A focus will be on Asian and European imports with a high demand for these products into New Zealand.

The trans-Tasman market between Australia and New Zealand will also be a key market.
“Supported by our strong global network, we expect to deliver comprehensive and innovative solutions to our customers, enhancing their supply chain’s value through a mutual partnership approach,” Harrison says.
Rhenus East Asia chief executive Jan Harnisch says the company has been investing in the expansion of its Asia-Pacific network for several years.
“We took over the Australian company O’Brien Logistics about one year ago and integrated it within the Rhenus Group.
“We’ve also opened many new business sites, for example in South Korea, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and in the Philippines,” Harnisch says.
Rhenus Group has an annual turnover of 4.8 billion euros. It has business sites at 610 locations worldwide and employs 29,000 people. Its business includes contract logistics, freight logistics, port logistics and public transport.
