Temperature-controlled transport operator Refrigafreighters has marked the opening of its new depot at Hamilton’s Ruakura Superhub.

The purpose-built depot went live on November 22 as staff, partners, suppliers, and local iwi gathered for an opening karakia followed by speeches and a morning tea.

Chief executive Michael Roberts says expected economic growth in the golden triangle region was the driver for its sixth depot nationwide, and first in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.

“This facility reflects our team’s dedication and passion. It strengthens our presence in Hamilton’s growing hub and supports our continued service across New Zealand,” he says.

The Superhub’s central location and proximity to the Waikato Expressway and Ruakura Inland Port will support the operational efficiency and growth of Refrigafreighters.

The firm has established a speciality in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and time-critical freight deliveries.

With over 190 chiller/freezer trucks and trailers, operating 24/7 nationwide, Refrigafreighters plays a key role in feeding the country. It works with some of New Zealand’s leading food companies and brands.

The new 1000 square metre facility has been developed by Tainui Group Holdings (TGH) and includes fridge and freezer space and accompanying office space.

The building is specified to a Greenstar 4 rating with design carried out by main contractor Calder Stewart Construction.

The facility includes four truck docks and extra parking on a 5000 square metre lot, providing plenty of growing room for its starting fleet of seven new delivery trucks.

All trucks based there will serve the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions, with further operational support from the existing Refrigafreighters network.
