The 49th New Zealand National Agricultural Fieldays has officially come to an end, with more than 133,588 visitors attending the four-day event, the biggest recording yet.
“The level of investment and professionalism by exhibitors, combined with reasonably good weather has resulted in record crowds,” says NZ National Fieldays Society chief executive officer Peter Nation.
We’ve had early reports from exhibitors stating that sales were high, in some cases exceeding show targets in their first day of trading,” says Nation.
Fi
nal visitor numbers were 26,140 on Wednesday, 33,528 on Thursday, 40,104 on Friday and 33,816 on Saturday, exceeding the six-yearly average for day four by 4800.
The 2017 Fieldays rural bachelor of the year competition saw Matthew McAtamney of Fairlie taking away the coveted Golden Gumboot.
For the second year running the people’s choice award is heading over the ditch with Queensland’s Gordon Mill walking away with that prize.
