Recall issued for Michelin truck tyres over potential sidewall cracking

A recall has been issued for certain Michelin heavy vehicle tyres due to a potential defect that could lead to rapid pressure loss.

The recall applies to Michelin X Multi Z and X Line Energy Z tyres in size 355/50R22.5 with a load/speed index of 156K.

Affected tyres can be identified by checking the sidewall for the markings “355/50R22.5 X Multi Z” or “355/50R22.5 X Line Energy Z”, along with the 156K load/speed index.

Owners are also being advised to check the last four digits of the 13-digit alphanumeric Department of Transportation (DOT) code on the tyre sidewall. Tyres with DOT codes ending between 0123 and 0825 — manufactured between week 01 of 2023 and week 02 of 2025 — are subject to the recall and should be inspected.

“There is a potential occurrence of a circumferential crack in the sidewall area at the bar code field, which could present a risk of rapid pressure loss,” Product Safety says.

“This is a proactive and precautionary measure, as no product has experienced pressure loss to date.”

Consumers who believe they may have affected tyres are advised to inspect the barcode field next to the serial number on the sidewall.

If there is no crack or rubber lip in that area, the tyre can remain in service. If a crack or rubber lip is visible, the tyre should be replaced.

Owners who are unsure about carrying out the inspection themselves are advised to contact the Michelin dealer where the tyre was purchased to arrange an inspection by a Michelin representative. Replacement tyres, where required, can also be arranged through authorised dealers.

Affected tyres were sold by the following retailers:
