Rebuilding of busy city road to start

Truck drivers will be asked to detour around the rebuilding of a short section of high-use road in New Plymouth.

From yesterday (November 13), the section of Hobson Street between Devon Street East and Courtenay Street will have its seal removed, the base stabilised and a new seal and a hotmix layer put down.

The work will finish on Monday (November 18) night, weather permitting.
“Because this is such a busy section of road we’ll be doing the work between 6pm and midnight, when the traffic flow is lighter,” says NZ Transport Agency manager roaring assets, Max Aves.

Truck drivers travelling on Hobson Street toward Northgate will be asked to detour by turning left on to Devon Street East during the works period.

This project will see the eastern lane of the road entirely rebuilt, but only a short patch on the western lane will require the same level of maintenance.
