Quick Mainfreight reaction saves Christmas in the Park.

Creative thinking and all hands on deck saw Mainfreight secure coastal shipping for 17 containers bound for the Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park event in Christchurch on Saturday, November 26.

The shipping containers were due to leave on Monday, November 14 by rail; however, the impact of Monday’s 7.8 earthquake in the South Island meant the Christchurch concert was at risk.

Mainfreight transports the staging, sound and lighting equipment, scaffolding and the 22-metre tall Christmas tree from Auckland to Christchurch, and back again every year, and has been doing so for more than 16 years.

The logistics company secured coastal shipping for the containers to ensure they arrived in Christchurch on time and finalised a safe plan ensuring it will all make it back to Auckland in time for the next show on December 10.

“We’ve been moving this show for over 16 years, and we were determined to do everything we could to make sure that both concerts went ahead,” says Mainfreight spokesperson Grant Smith

“Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park is a tremendous collaborative effort and its partners such as Mainfreight whose quick thinking, responsiveness, and commitment to the NZ community keep our show on the road year after year, says Coca-Cola Amatil NZ managing director Chris Litchfield.
