Greater Wellington regional council has a scrap on its hands from public opposition to its decision to terminate the local trolleybuses.

The council is due to make a final decision on the future of the trolleybuses at its full meeting on Wednesday 25 June. The hearings committee of the council recommended the withdrawal of support for the trolleybuses from July 1, 2017.

There will be a public meeting of interested groups and individuals about taking action to change the Council’s mind at the Newtown community centre at 2pm on Sunday June 22.

The organisers of the meeting say they are concerned not only about the decision but the way the decision was made.

None of the regional councillors stated publicly stated that they would vote to scrap the trolleybuses during the local body campaign last year nor was there any mention of it in the early drafts of the regional public transport plan.
