More power and greater torque for its 2.8-litre turbodiesel motor are key features of the revised Toyota Hilux ute.

The truck arrives here later in the year, and prices are yet to be announced.

The Hilux also gets more aggressive frontal styling, designed to emphasis the truck’s ruggedness.

Power rises to 150kW and peak torque on automatic models increases by 11% to 500Nm.

The power increase was achieved by modifications to the cylinder block, pistons, turbo design and cooling system.

Toyota says the revised turbodiesel is also more fuel-efficient than its predecessor.

The 2020 Hilux range also offers a 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

The Hilux range has four specification levels – Workmate, SR, SR5 and the range topping SR5 Cruiser. The SR5 Cruiser is available in both 2WD and 4WD and is automatic only.

Both 2WD and 4WD options are available along with four body styles – single, extra, double cab and cab/chassis.

Inside, the touchscreen for all variants is upgraded to an eight-inch display and the audio system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Toyota New Zealand’s chief operating officer, Neeraj Lala, says there will also be a special launch edition Hilux inspired by the recent success of the Hilux Gladiator, and custom-built for New Zealand customers and conditions.
