A Ports of Auckland stevedore has been killed after an incident involving a shipping container.
The incident happened around 2am on Sunday morning while working on a ship at Fergusson Container Terminal.
Emergency services were called but the worker did not survive their injuries. Maritime New Zealand will be leading the investigation into the incident.
“We are all absolutely devastated by this news,” said Ports of Auckland chief executive Tony Gibson.
“An investigation is underway and we are providing support to our staff member’s family and all our staff,” he says.
