A funeral service was held on Thursday 20 March for Alven Lyle Bonney (89) who was a driving force behind the Auckland cartage company L W Bonney and Sons Ltd.
The company was originally called L W Bonney and Son when launched in 1946 by Lyle Bonney, who ran milk trucks with Alven from their family home in Papatoetoe. The company name changed to L W Bonney and Sons in 1954, when Alven’s younger brother Selwyn joined the business.
Alven’s father Lyle passed away in the early 1970s, which saw Alven continue to run the business with Selwyn and their mother Rita who had inherited Lyle’s shareholding.
Alven’s son Calven purchased the L W Bonney and Sons Ltd business from his father and Uncle in 1984. Alven found himself a role within the company workshop and the team at L W Bonney and Sons Ltd say it won’t be the same without him around to show the young ones how to get the job done.
Married to Dell, he was the father of Calven and Ann, Leigh and John and Joanne and Leith. Grandfather to Pamela, Travers and Anna, Stephanie and Nick, Bradley and Fiona, Emma, Briar, Ashley, Hope and Gabrielle. Great Grandfather to Benjamin, Elijah, Isaac and Felicity.
