Following concerns, the NZ Transport agency has immediately suspended vehicle inspector Chris Luo and his Mount Roskill-based inspecting organisation, which trades under the name Kiwi Motor Services.
During a review in April this year, Luo was found to be using unauthorised and poor check sheets. Non-compliant vehicles may have been given warrants of fitness, and the site is conducting an unusually high number of inspections with just Luo as inspector, says NZTA.
It adds there is a “strong possibility” some vehicles may have been incorrectly passed.
The review raised concerns around the quality of Luo’s inspections, and advises people who have a current Warrant of Fitness issued from Auto Link (trading as Kiwi Motor Services) to get their vehicles rechecked.
The NZTA says it will contact around 3100 affected vehicle owners individually as soon as possible about recheck options. Vouchers will be provided and will be valid for six months from the date of issues.
