The NZ Transport Agency is consulting on proposed changes to the official New Zealand truck loading code, with feedback set to inform a revised version due for release by May 2026.
The code, developed in partnership with industry stakeholders, complements load security requirements under the Land Transport Act 1998 and is designed to guide heavy vehicle operators on their duties and responsibilities.
Proposed updates include new sections covering:
- Loads transported using A-frames
- Containment by body, such as machines carried in tipper bodies
- Curtain-sided vehicles
NZTA says the code has also been revised to provide “clearer, more practical guidance, remove obsolete content, and has been restructured for clarity”.
The agency will review submissions and publish a summary of feedback, including the rationale behind any final changes.
The updated truck loading code will be published online and incorporated into the official road code for heavy vehicle drivers.
Industry participants and stakeholders are invited to submit feedback via email, with consultation closing on April 24.
