The NZ Transport Agency’s Palmerston North office was evacuated on June 13 after it was revealed the building is earthquake prone.
Structural investigations were carried out on the Palmerston North office building, before advising NZTA that the building is below 34% of the New Zealand Building Standard.
“Staff are evacuating the building and it will be closed until further notice,” NZ Transport Agency Interim chief executive Mark Ratcliffe says.
Other tenants in the building have also been informed and are evacuating as well.
“Our first priority on receiving this information from the engineers was to advise staff and clear the building. Our next steps are to carry out invasive testing as well as getting the structural engineer’s report peer reviewed,” Ratcliffe adds.
0800 4HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49) is operating and other numbers will re-open remotely as per NZTA’s business continuity plans.
